Frequently Asked Questions
And frequently given answers!
I'd like to submit my poetry to the GPP; what's the process?
This blog post has the details. But in a nutshell, we have opened submissions to all GPP Operatives, so anyone with a poet or Operative login can submit work for broadside consideration. Oh yeah, all Operatives can now vote on which poems will be used for the broadsides as well. How can you beat that? You can't! How do you become an Operative? Easy. Just click here.
Why is there a fee to become an Operative?
First, there is no "fee" to become an Operative; what the $25 covers is a year long subscription to receive two copies per month (one each) of the GPP Broadsides to keep/enjoy, and in addition, you receive ten extra broadsides (five each) to place in the Target Books for free. The money goes to cover postage, ink, paper, envelopes, and all the other costs associated with running the GPP. Nobody involved makes any money doing this, as everyone donates their valuable time and energy to make it work. In fact, many involved have donated much more than the required $25. We believe in putting our money where our mouths are, and making sure the words get out there and read by those who are looking for them, as well as bringing new readers to the world of small press writing.
I signed up a month ago and haven't received my broadsides yet; what's the deal?
The GPP is a well oiled machine made up of fully rested and competent...wait, no, hang on, we're actually a ramshackle bunch of poets, artists and madmen with a crazy idea to further the reach of the small press where great writing languishes in minor obscurity. So, to answer the question, they're on the way. We sometimes get behind in the mailing schedule either thru actual lives getting in the way or other momentary obstacles, but rest assured, we keep careful records of who gets what and when, so if you signed up and donated your hard-earned dough, you will get your broads as soon as they are printed, and for the entire year of your GPP Membership.
What do I do if there aren't enough bookstores near where I live?
We hope you dig deeply, either thru looking into libraries, used bookstores, coffee shops, etc., but if you still end up each month with a surplus of broadsides, maybe you should consider becoming a GPP Patron. A Patron still receives the two broadsides to keep that they donated their money for each month, but is unburdened from heading out and placing the extra free copies normally mailed with an Operative Membership.
Who is in charge here?
The GPP is administered by the Core Group of ten founding members, with various duties assigned to specific members to execute. Depending on the problem or question, you may receive a solution/answer from any one of us here at GPP Headquarters. Just shoot us an email, post a comment at the website forum or check in at the blog.
I can't log in to my GPP Website Profile; what the hell?
First, if you've not yet been assigned an initial username/password as a GPP Operative, shoot us an email and we'll get you set up. Next, if you've already been assigned one but lost it/forgot it/ate it there is a function that will send you your username and a newly generated password; it appears on the login page. Finally, if all else fails, email us and we'll try to solve any further difficulty you may be having.
